Symptoms: animal has a normal desire to eat and drink but has a difficulty in swallowing (expressed as inapettence). Some animals develop fever, excessive salivation and dry cough.

Cause: pharyngeal bacterial infections. Usually occurs during the winter months (ice licking and eating), and possible during the summer months (ice cream eating, drinking of the cold water)

Duration: few days

First aid: none

Urgency: one to three days

Prevention: none (or avoiding cold drinks and food)

 Treatment: antibiotics, hydratation (fluid therapy), soft palatable diet

Therapy success: 90 to 100%
